In Your Hood: It’s not Andrew’s Hamburgers, it’s mine! Albert Park- Part One

My readers Dave and Mellissa, a lovely couple residing in Albert Park, had emailed me suggesting that I pay their suburb a gastronomical visit, to check out two of their favourite local eateries- Andrew’s Hamburgers and Yellow Door. It was a tough call as to which of the two I’d try out first- the red pill or the blue pill? Although, their description of the meat filled buns was enough to set me off, huffing and puffing all the way home; sticking my head out the car window like a Jack Russell in anticipation. For the safety of other drivers, I was fortunately picked up by a trusted friend.

Andrews has been a local haunt for over 50 years. That’s double my years in serving up this meaty tradition.  I’ve also been told that unless you’ve consumed a burger at Andrew’s Burgers, you’re still pretty much a burger virgin. So I guess today was my lucky day people. Lucky day.

Details: 144 Bridport Street, Albert Park, Victioria Phone: 9690 2126

Surroundings: With only a few seats available, this no fuss burger joint screams out “take it….and go!” And that you do my friend. A straightforward chalk written menu gives you an overview of options. Whilst waiting for your order, you can watch the freshly warmed up buns getting their tan on the griller’s frequent rotation. Staff are meticulous in this area.

Mains:

I know you’re going to assume what I’d ordered, and I bet you’re guess is on point. With an enthusiastic wide grin similar to that of Goldie Hawn and Brandy – the words “I’ll have lot please!” automatically rolled out of my mouth like a robot who was only programmed to say these four words.

After a thank you and several shots of the place, I bolted out taking my new fiancé named Pattie with the The Lot, to the nearby park. Just picture my friend shaking his head in embarrassment. 😛

As expected, it was all beef here homeboy! None of that lean meat crap, ‘all healthy and 99% fat free’ mince here. Just that good ol traditional beef patty with all the necessary trimmings you grew up eating- no fuss but with all the juice.

Oh yea baby!

“Two hands were required here as  a war was raging between blood sucking mosquitoes and baby flies who are the most persistent of them all.

One hand was fighting the fight whilst the other was holding fort as it helped transport the meaty cargo on board the taste bud vessel.”

Overall, the burger was satisfying indeed. The first bite brought flashbacks of those joyful childhood memories when your parents lifted you up on the counter so you could watch your burger being grilled at the local fish and chip shop.
