What happens when you mix 14 restaurants with an abundance of of local produce and booze in one room? The Taste of Melbourne 2010. Much like Willi Wonka’s Candyland, you arrive at taste bud heaven! Once a year, from 26 – 29 August, we are treated to an event where we get to try out delicious morsels from each of Melbourne’s top eateries including the newly opened Maze, Longrain, Stokehouse Bar, Libertine and Mezzo.

This year, there will also be the Taste POP UP which will showcase four different restaurants from my current favourite- the underground located Japanese joint Izakaya Den to French cuisine at Embrasse.
If the above weren’t enough, other producers that will entice some drooling are Ben & Jerry’s, Green and Blacks, Colefax Chocolates, Beechworth Honey, The Chocolate Master as well as wines and beers from Little Creatures, Capel Vale and Katnook Estate.
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend this epic event as I will be in Japan (pigging out nonetheless) so I though I’d quickly post this goodie up before I jet set off. I have 1 of 5 Double Passes to giveaway to some lucky readers valid at any of the sessions!
How to get your hands on these golden tickets?
When it comes to competitions, I know how frustrating it is when you have to respond to a question in 25 words or less, so I thought I’d spare you the pain! To enter, simply leave a comment and tell me what restaurant or chef you are looking forward to meeting the most. That’s it!
For further information, check out: http://www.tastefestivals.com.au
Competition closes 16 August at Midnight (AEST) with the winners announced on twitter and contacted via email on 17 August- so keep your emails peeled as I will need your postal address.
Thanks to Hothouse Media and Events for sponsoring this giveaway.
If you don’t get a chance to win here, also check out my fellow foodie bloggers My Food Trail and Addictive & Consuming for a second and third chance at winning!
WINNERS ANNOUNCED!
After nearly 40 entries, we have 5 lucky winners.
Thank you to all who participated and for taking the time to give such enthusatic reponses- I wish I had more passes to give.
Congratulations to all the below commentors who will all be receiving double passes to this feast. An email will be going out to you today requesting your postal details.

Hi Adrian – That sounds yum. Please put me in the draw! I’m a big Gordon Ramsay fan so would love to meet Josh Emmet.
Such a fan of this event . . most looking forward to seeing what Maze has to offer and indulging in all the great tasting food and wine!!!
Hey, Sounds like an awesome event. Always wanted to meet good old Gordon. The Stokehouse has been one of my favourites especially the Orrechiette, crystal bay prawns, vongole, saffron, tomato & bottarga. Sounds really good.
Thank you for this giveaway! (Will keep my fingers crossed) I would love to meet Karen Martini, either sampling some Melbourne Wine Room fare or Mr Wolf pizza…not fussed! 🙂 Alison

Japanese foods are a real treat, wouldnt mind trying the Ramen (love your article re best Ramen in town, the photos all look appetising, making me hungry now)
It would be aMAZEing to sample MAZE’S FOOD! 🙂
Sounds fabulous! I would love to meet Nic Poelaert from Embrasse.
I’m looking forward to meeting Nic Poelaert from Embrasse (who was named “Young Chef of the Year 2010” in The Age Good Food Guide) because I love how his philosphy of using fresh seasonal produce and keeping it simple yet unique translates so well into his food.
Sarti. Haven’t heard much about it all but it sounds interesting and I’d like to sample the food before I go. Family visiting from Sydney and there’s always friendly fire between them and I regarding which city has the better food scene, so hope to win tix and take them along to sample lots of food and show off Melb’s food scene 🙂
I would love to see some of Maze’s samples.

I really want to check out Charcoal Lane, because I love the concept and hope that the food is good too!

Awesome giveaway!
I’m very tempted by the Embrasse pop-up and Nic Poelaert’s modern French/Aus dishes. It’s a toss-up between the pork belly and the forest floor dessert dishes that have been advertised for the pop-up, maybe both 😀
Have heard great reports on Maze so itching to sample their food. Gordon Ramsay can be a harsh critic of other people’s cooking. What is the quality like at Maze? Enjoy Japan!!
I’m most looking forward to sampling food from Maze, because I haven’t gotten around to going there yet, and I want to se what the fuss is all about!

Hi,
I love this competition! I’ve wanted to go to the Taste of Melbourne event for two years but haven’t been able to. I would absolutely, really really love to go this year.
I’ve been over the menu dozens of times already. All of the restaurants look fabulous.
However, I’m most looking forward to Longrain. I’ve recently got into Thai food, and it’s supposed to be one of the best in Melbourne. I was also really impressed by Martin Boetz last year when he appeared on Masterchef and made his eggnet (still remember it).
I also love that they have a bar as well as a restaurant. I’m a bit of a cocktail fan, so I’ll be in heaven. Love!
I’d love to sample something from Charcoal Lane, I’m very interested in Australian Aboriginal and Native Australian ingredients and cuisine. I have already tried Tjanabi and I’d like to see how Charcoal Lane compares. Thanks a lot 🙂
Hi,
I would love to go to the taste of melbourne festival. I looked up the menu this morning, and the food choices look delicious, I want to try them all!
However, if i had to choose just one, it would be the dishes from Charcoal lane.
Charcoal Lane, great concept and would be awes to see if they can give the top ones a run for their money!
Oooohhhhh I can’t wait to try out dishes from Gordon Ramsay’s new baby, Maze. Mmmmmm 🙂
Heyz, Nic Poelaert from Embrasse!
I am yet to be aMAZEd at MAZE, so I would love to WIN the chance to check it out…. Or revist my favourite Longrain…
Delish!
Hi Adrian,
All of them sound wonderful! I am not a ‘fan’ as such because I am just a poor uni student who survive on limited allowance. I will really appreciate the tickets as an eye-opener experience with my boyfriend who is also a uni student. Thanks
I feel it would be entirely unfair to isolate one restaurant/chef that I most want to meet, without first sampling what each has to offer. So I’ll have to let you know my answer once I’ve eaten my way through the event…

To be honest, I want to try them all! But if I only get one pick, I can’t wait to get my hand on Maze’s food, and some Ben & Jerry’s ice creammmmm!!! I have yet to taste them.
Definately excited to try Maze! Haven’t made it there yet, but am keen to check out a sample at taste, before I spend the big dollars at the restaurant. Also, I heard that there’s a chance Gordo himself might be making a special appearance!!
Oh how I would love to try food from Luke Mangan’s The Palace – something I probably wouldn’t get a chance to try otherwise. So many top class restaurants to pick from, but this is the one I’d be most excited about!
The food at MAZE would be great to taste. Also would like to see the other produce there!
I’d love to try out MAZE wouldn’t be able to afford it normally. How exciting! This festival sounds awesome.
I would love to see Vue de Monde showcased in this year’s Taste of Melbourne because I have been hearing lots of excellent comment about the food there! Also been wanting to meet Gordon Ramsay, but unfortunately he won’t be coming here because Josh Emmett is the chef at Maze 🙂
FYI http://crowdmass.com.au is doing a 2for1 Standard Tickets deal at the moment.
Great for those who haven’t made up their mind yet.
Can’t wait till the weekend!
