Can I get a witness?! What has happened over the last two months since the release of What The Heck is Filipino Food has been, honestly, the total opposite of how I thought things would pan out. Yes, I was optimistic that I’d eventually sell a few copies and perhaps get a good review, but the little ol’ humble me on the inside certainly did not expect what was about to happen not once but twice. Gaaesh. Still recovering from the shock of making it in Bookdepository.com’s Best Sellers last month, I found out that I had somehow, by the power of grayskull, made it into the mecca of all meccas – the Amazon.com Best Sellers a few weeks back! Slap me silly. So insane it hit me hard, made me lose my breath. But now that I have come back down from cloud 9, I can finally put two words together and write about it.
To celebrate this unexpected milestone, and to thank you ALL for your unwavering support and love, I am giving away four, yes FOUR copies of What The Heck is Filipino Food, A Beginner’s Guide to Filipino Cooking to some very oisome readers. The good with the bad
Throughout the process of making the cookbook, it did feel that my work was small and insignificant. But the encouraging doughnut eating dude inside my head made me remember that even one small ripple can gain momentum despite the creepy dieting anti-doughnut eating dude lurking inside my head saying “What’s the point? You’re wasting your time fool. Who’s gonna buy a book about Filipino food?”. What a douche. Don’t trust anyone who doesn’t like doughnuts! You see, some people tried to put me down. Some said it couldn’t be done. Some people laughed at the idea. But you know what? So many others had inspired and supported the cause – thank you to you all, for being with me throughout the entire journey. Because of you of , this project was a stonegroove. I know this may sound a little cliche, but I was once told by a good friend that success is just a matter of pressing on after others have let go. Believe me, haters gonna hate no matter what you do.

I still find it extremely hard to juggle the importance of marketing my cookbook with my demanding job, family, the kids (Cookie and Creamy!), social life and this blog that I heart so dearly. However, I plan on pimping up the marketing engine and stepping on the promo pedal to keep spreading the word about my love for Filipino food.

I’m not creepy or dieting, but I never cared much for doughnuts until the day that I first made my own. I’ve only made one recipe though (given, many times now), so I’d love to try whatever comes closest to doughnuts in your book (is it the pandesal? maybe those are just bread, I can’t quite tell) 🙂

Hey Adrian 🙂 Been reading your blog for a while now, and I’ve liked you on fb and twitter since ages back as well 🙂
I have got to say that a Filipino dish that I like is the ginataang halo halo, because I’m a sucker for any dessert containing coconut milk and glutinous rice balls. I love it how although Asian cuisines have their similarities – my Viet background is the reason why I love these desserts :p – ultimately they are very distinct and carry true flavours of their own.

Ugh, I just just love you and your positive attitude and creative awesome book. It’s so inspiring! I am THRILLED that it’s stocked at Books for Cooks.
